I am the Grandchild of Holocaust survivors.
I was passed down a unique history, an incredible family story of survival and perseverance and a passion to somehow take this tragedy and transform it into something good. The third generation is often referred to as the ‘last living link’ as we are more often than not the last generation who will get to know our grandparents firsthand. While it’s hard sometimes, I know that this is my mission to ensure that the world never forgets what hatred can do and to share my grandmother's story of survival.
There are so many life lessons we can take away from these stories. We learn about the consequences of hate, and the importance of tolerance. We can teach future generations how to be up-standers, not bystanders, when someone is being treated unfairly.
I know so many who have personally witnessed the horrors of the Holocaust, and yet never gave up hope. There is a reason for that. That reason is you who are reading this. The importance of educating future generations.
As I look into my children's eyes, I too am filled with hope that the world has learned from its past and that my children will grow up in a world free from hate and intolerance. I will teach them to learn, to remember; to open their eyes, advocate, and stick up for those without a voice.
Many of our grandparents are no longer with us, many of us will be the last people to really know them, get to talk to them and hear their stories of the past. I will ensure that the world never forgets.
6 million Jews, including 1.5 million children were killed during the Holocaust.
My grandmother was 21 years old at the time.
There are more than 6 million stories, this is just one.
This page is dedicated to my Savta Eva (Selymes) Reisner, her three courageous sisters, sweet little brothers and loving parents.
